"BRYN ALMA"
'Alma Hill' in Welsh

'Bryn Alma' is a mid-19th
Century, stone-built, farm cottage that we fell in love with while Judy was
consulting for the British Nuclear
Fuels people at the Wylfa Power Station
that lives 5 minutes
down
the road. Nestling in a tiny Welsh-speaking village full of lovely
people,
it's a snapshot of rural Welsh life
a century ago.
When Magnox offered Judy a full-time post on the Power Station's management team, we jumped at the
chance to buy
the house ..... and then promptly started knocking much if it down in order for Bob to install new
wiring, new plumbing,
new heating, a new bathroom and a new kitchen. Then we turned the lean-to
cowshed at the side into a dining room.
Next we had the main chimney re-opened
(note the lack of chimney pots in the original photo above) and re-lined.
This was partly
to help to dry out the damp lime mortar stonework, caused by lack of
ventilation, but also so that
we could use the big Victorian fireplace,
we replaced the beamed ceiling in the
living room . Then it was time to
start on the rambling and overgrown garden ....
Two years later and the house
is just starting to come together. We're putting together a picture trail of our
2-year
stay in this
lovely little Welsh village, and our many new friends in it, and we hope you enjoy it.
